Does Absolute Truth Exist?
by Gary L. Grizzell
Yes! Absolute Truth Exists! "For ever, O Lord, thy word is settled in heaven" (Psalm 119:89).
Those who advocate that truth is not objective, i.e., that there is no fixed, objective standard on earth, say that you (and I) cannot know anything for sure. They say there are no absolutes.
Yet, note such an agnostic's irrational thinking here. He is sure that you cannot be sure of anything. Stating the same thing but differently, He knows you cannot know anything. Is this not a glaring double standard? As someone said, If he can know I can't know, then I can know that I know.
Why would one claim to be so smart and yet allow himself to remain inconsistent, with an air of being an expert in epistemology? Epistemology is a study of what can be known and how knowledge may be gained.
One thing we do know is that it is personally "convenient" (sarcasm intended) and at times politically and economically expedient to remain an agnostic (one who believes there is no fixed, absolute standard of truth). This is the real intellectual, you know! But, what does God's Word say?
"Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth" (John 17:17).
"and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free" (John 8:32, bold mine, glg).
"Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away" (Matthew 24:35; see also Mark 13:31 & Luke 21:33).
"All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: that the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works" (2 Tim. 3:16-17, KJV).
It is popular in many circles today to be ridiculously "open-minded" in that some are so open-minded that their brains have fallen out and their thinking process is flawed. Such is the case when one foolishly argues he can know, but you can't know.
As a warning it is that same inspired of the Holy Spirit, fixed, absolute, infallible, authoritative standard of truth that tells us, "But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death" (Rev. 21:8).
